    Facts about St. Macrina the Elder

  • Towards the end of the 3rd century, Macrina learned about the Christian faith from St. Gregory Thaumaturgis.
  • Suring the severe persecution in the Roman Empire, Macrina fled with her husband to the Black Sea.
  • She passed the faith on to her children and would become the grandmother of St. Basil the Great and St. Gregory of Nyssa.
